A GUIDE TO THE SPRING DASH FOR DESIGN, ART, STYLE AND HOME
One of my favorite markets is coming up this week, April 22 to 24 – DASH!! It’s a fun curated show inside Silver Street Studios in Houston, but what I love the most is the diverse selection of vendors. More than an antique show, DASH is a full-fledged shopping event with over 65 dealers and everything from jewelry and clothing to furniture, art and antiques! I’ve had so much fun at past DASH shows that, this year, I wanted to create a guide to some of my fave vendors for those of you planning to come this weekend!
DASH all started with four women – Michelle Maresh, Vanessa Sendukas, Lisa Erwin, and Angela Poujol. After years of shopping outdoor antique markets and home shows in other cities, they decided that a metro area of 6 million people needed its own home decor market! I couldn’t agree more!!! As co-owner Michelle, who’s also the publisher of Houston Design Resources, describes, “DASH has found the mix that modern Houstonians love, mingling traditional and contemporary design to give their homes character and dimension.”
Along with our own artists whose works we’ll be bringing to the Preview Party on Friday will be artist Scott Kerr. I met Scott at the last DASH. Not only is he brilliantly talented, but his work is reasonably priced and he’s super nice!! Stop by and tell him I said hi!
I first met Kate from Maison Pernoud at the last DASH! She was there manning her booth with her mother, husband and sweet daughter who loves helping out her mom! I fell in love with her acrylic trays with antique handles… and I was so, so surprised when one of my friends delivered a tray to me as a late Christmas/early birthday present!!
Maison Pernoud has become a way for Kate’s family to discover the world. As she says, “nothing gives me greater pleasure than watching someone have a personal connection to an item I found half a world away.” You never know what you will find at her booth, but they always have a beautiful selection!
We’ve carried some Mela & Roam products in our store, and we always sell out!! The founder, Courtney Barton, has to be one of the sweetest people I know! A traveler at heart, Courtney started Mela & Roam to share all her discoveries from far-flung places like India. Inspired by ancient craft traditions, the brand is all about handcrafted artistry that melds exotic Eastern wares with high-end design.
Her baby blankets are about the softest baby blankets out there! I am so excited to see how Mela & Roam has expanded… her line of pillows, travelers’ bags, bedding, and dinner napkins are just as unique and amazing. She is one reason I so look forward to going to all the holiday shopping markets!!!
I got to know about Paris Texas Apparel Co. when they were just starting out! Their mom was a sweet client of mine, and her home was featured in Segreto Style (and her master retreat will be in Segreto Vignettes)!!
Paris Texas Apparel Co.‘s selection of ties and bow ties are perfect for groomsmen!!! Whenever we carry them in the store, they sell out so quickly!
I love their motifs and themes celebrating all that is Texas, from armadillos to redfish to chips and queso! They make such a unique, fun gift!!
The guys at Paris Texas Apparel Co. also conceived of this awesome ready-to-wear line of San Cristobal Guayaberas. These are so well-made! I gave a shirt to every man in my family one year!
Another vendor at DASH, Hibiscus Linens, creates these gorgeous, hand-stitched linens! I especially adore these lovely boxwood napkins and some of their monogrammed options. What an amazing hostess gift these would be!!
Susan Horne Antiques is another great one to check out if you’re looking for wonderful copper pots, barware and French pillows! I love seeing what she has to offer at markets in Houston and Round Top. And even if you who can’t make it to DASH, be sure to drop by the fab Susan Horne Antiques booth at MAI some time!
Atelier 1505 will be there too. I’ve purchased both the Fortuny drapes in my dining room and the table in my kitchenfrom them!!!
I love owner Dianne Josephs! She’s a designer by trade, and when all her clients began downsizing, she saw a big need in the market for a high-end consignment shop for the home! It’s fun just to go to Atelier 1505 and look around because Dianne’s so good at arranging!!
I was excited to learn that Katy Briscoe Home will also be at DASH!! If you look back at my kitchen table and dining table, you’ll see that I have a Katy Briscoe Home bowl in both shots. Katy started as a jewelry designer who sold to Saks and other high-end stores, but when her publicist said “I think your bracelets would make the most amazing napkin rings,” the idea for a home accessories collection was born! The whole line is just gorgeous – we carry several pieces at the boutique!!
Ashley, the owner of Renouveau Antiques, contacted me on Facebook years ago and said she would work for free. Well, I loved her spunk! Of course I wouldn’t let her work for free, but she helped me out at the shop until her third child was born. She loves antiques and has a great eye for repurposing them, so I was so thrilled when she opened her antique store! Mixing family and work, her joy is contagious!!!!
Her sister Bella does these great candles that will be available at DASH. It started out as a hobby, and then everyone wanted them! I got one as a gift one year – they smell wonderful and always come in the prettiest, most unique containers!!
Here’s a write-up Houston Design Resources magazine did on last year’s DASH! You can see in the pics how much variety there is at the market!!!
